The Trouble With Aid why less could mean more by Jonathan Glennie

This is one of those books that you will either really enjoy or get really offended by.

Glennie, the author, argues that government aid to Africa actually has many very harmful effects. He claims that aid has often meant more poverty, more hungry people, worse basic services for poor people and damage to already precarious democratic institutions.

He is not just saying this from the top of his head. Through an honest assessment of both the positive and negative consequences of aid, this book will shows you why aid is not really the kinds of help that Africa needs.

This book is written with great clarity, simple enough for students to understand and at the same time it sets out discerning arguments that academics and policy-makers will find refreshing and challenging.

Despite the fact that it can be offending to some, generally this is a pretty interesting book.
